Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat the same macros every day, or should I cycle them? Both approaches work. Daily consistency is simpler. Carb cycling (higher on training days, lower on rest days) may offer slight advantages for body composition but complicates planning.

Do I need to hit exact macro targets, or is close enough? Within ~5 g of protein, ~10 g of carbs, and ~5 g of fat is sufficient precision. Obsessive accuracy beyond this produces no additional benefit and often harms adherence.

What if I’m vegetarian or vegan? Plant-based athletes can meet protein targets through strategic food combining (rice + beans, lentils + grains), soy products (tofu, tempeh), seitan, and plant protein powders. How do alcohol calories fit into macros? Alcohol provides 7 calories per gram. The most common approach is to track alcohol as either carbohydrates (divide alcohol calories by 4) or fat (divide by 9), or a combination. Alcohol is not an essential nutrient and should be moderated, especially during fat loss phases.
